23 CFR 490, Final Rule on the Highway Safety Improvement Program, requires MPOs to set five Performance Targets for the Safety Performance Measure:
1. Number of Total Fatalities
2. Number of Serious Injuries
3. Fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled (VMT)
4. Serious injuries per 100 million VMT
5. Number of Non-Motorized Fatalities and Serious Injuries
The Mesilla Valley MPO adopted the State of New Mexico Safety Performance Measures for calendar years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The public may review the State of New Mexico Targets here. The public may comment on the proposed measures at the regular MPO meetings.
The Safety Measure Adoption is an amendment to the Mesilla Valley MPO Metropolitan Transportation Plan.

The MPO is pleased to announced that it has completed the 2025 Safety Report.
The Safety Report contains data and analysis of safety data from the Mesilla Valley MPO Planning Area for calendar year 2023, which is the most recent reporting year.
