Starting in July 2020, the South Central Regional Transit District (SCRTD) will begin a new fixed route/demand response service This service is a pilot project that will operate as a fixed bus route, but will also be able to pick up residents who live near the fixed route.
The boundaries of the pilot project service are from the northern boundary of Doña Ana (i.e., Thorpe Road), to Elks Drive (eastern boundary), North Main and Picacho, (southern boundary) and the Fairacres neighborhood (western boundary).
The funding for this service was provided by NMDOT with a match from Doña Ana County. This service will provide connections for the residents of the service area for all travel needs (medical, work, school, shopping etc.)
Passengers can call the SCRTD customer service line at 575-323-1620 to schedule a pick-up approximately one hour or more in advance. A Transit District dispatcher will direct them to a safe and nearby pick-up point. A small bus will arrive at the nearest safe location within the neighborhood or city for the pickup or return trip.
The bus will take passengers to any job, school, or medical facility located within the city of Las Cruces, including connecting to SCRTD or RoadRUNNER Transit routes Passengers can make daily or monthly appointments for regular pick-ups. The only restriction will be capacity on the bus or schedule.
The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m. During the summer of 2020, the service will be free. Afterwards, fares will be $2.00 ($1.00 for youth, elderly, disabled, or Medicare card holders). Transferring to other bus routes is free.
For more information, a downloadable brochure will be available via the SCRTD website at https://scrtd.org/ on or before July 1, 2020 or by calling 575-323-1620.
