The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Planning Bureau has announced the final draft of the Prioritized Statewide Bicycle Network Plan (NM Bike Plan) is in a public comment period.
The NM Bike Plan identifies NMDOT owned and maintained roadways for the development of bicycle facilities during roadway reconstruction or major rehabilitation. It also incorporates opportunities and best practices for bicycle facilities. The roadways on the network are identified by a tier that signifies the robustness of the infrastructure, not the order of investment. The play also provides design guidance for the bicycle infrastructure based on the tier and the roadway context. The most common facility across the state is a 4-foot shoulder.
